Join West Seattle Indivisible in a restorative action while standing in community with neighbors in honor of International Day of Peace on Sunday, September 21st.
We seek 1000 people to form a 'human banner’ to spell out PEACE FOR ALL along the West Seattle waterfront. Spectacular views of downtown abound at this site located at 2130 Harbor Ave SW, just south of Salty’s.
Mark your calendars to help send a message of unity to end the global and domestic travesties we witness daily.

We are also looking for lots of volunteers to pull off an event of this size - from planning and preparation to day-of-crew. Contact volunteer@westseattleindivisible.com to learn more.

FIREFIGHTERS ON THE BEAR GULCH FIRE ARRESTED BY FEDERAL AGENTS
ICE IS COMING
On August 27th Federal agents detained a crew of firefighters working to contain the Bear Gulch Fire and arrested two, according to the Seattle Times.
ICE and Border Patrol are in our area. The number of raids in our area is expected to increase.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN YOU SEE ICE DETAINING OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS?
WSI and our Immigration Team is sponsoring a free Bystander Intervention Workshop Wednesday September 3 from 5:30-7:30 pm. This is a hands on workshop where participants will act out different scenarios that might occur during an ICE raid.

NEW LOGO FOR WSI
With refreshed fonts and colors, we blended elements from Indivisible National while adding our own style to make it feel more us. We love how it turned out, and we hope you do too!
For the last two months designer Roslyn Hyde, Emberi Collective, has worked with Natalie, Terry and Randy from the leadership team to create a new logo.
Inspired by the westward view from West Seattle, we feel it symbolizes what WSI is all about.
The mountains represent strength. The water shows resiliency. The sun represents hope.
The message it sends is that together we will overcome these difficult times.
Our website will also be changing to make it easier for our members to navigate. Watch for that in September!
About Emberi Collective: as your holistic design partner, we're passionate about crafting visuals that resonate with your audience. We thrive on bridging the gap between your vision and your users, making complex ideas clear, beautiful, and engaging. Join us in this creative journey. Together, we'll bring fresh insights and powerful messages to life.

September 3: Bystander Intervention Workshop
5:30-7:30pm - High Point Library
Please join us for an interactive, hands-on workshop to prepare for a "bystander intervention" in a Rapid Response action situation such as ICE detaining/abducting neighbors in our community. This is a session for people who want to prepare their nervous systems for the challenges ahead - it is not a "how-to" for intervention.
The workshop is sponsored by WSI and the Immigration Team and is offered free of charge to WSI members. The session will be led by Rev. Andrew Conley-Holcom, Admiral UCC, a trained conflict resolution workshop facilitator and violence prevention educator. Space is limited.
Note: This event is NOT hosted, sponsored, or endorsed by The Seattle Public Library. Any views that are discussed in this meeting are not a reflection of The Seattle Public Library’s views.

“Mayor Harrell Speaks to Members”
“So I commit to you fully as the leader of the executive branch, as your mayor, that I will protect your rights as protestors -- because we're gonna have to be loud and organize.”
Mayor Bruce Harrell came to our July 13 General Meeting to engage in a frank discussion of the coming threat from a militarized ICE, federal officers, and bounty hunters.
“This is our time to shine as a region to show what our country stands for,” said Harrell to the standing room only crowd at the Center for Active Living.
He called the raids led by armed and often masked ICE agents targeting people on the street, in parking lots and at businesses “one of the most atrocious policies in our lifetime.”
He said the Seattle Police Department won’t cooperate with ICE. Nor will police cooperate with federal troops if they are deployed here.
AUGUST MEMBERS MEETING
WSI has been very busy in the last few months with many important (and fun) activities including marches, rallies, and the West Seattle Grand Parade. On a sunny Sunday our members came together to find out more.
A WSI committee of Laurie, Jean, and John reported on their follow-up meeting with Deputy Mayor Greg Wong to find out Seattle’s plans to position itself as a model for the rest of the country, fending off the destructive policies of the Trump administration. Wong said Trump is attacking anything to do with DEI or LGBTQ rights, so the city has been filing many lawsuits to protect our neighbors and our rights. He said the city is very committed to maintaining our values and identity as an inclusive community. See more here.
WSI is creating more alliances with like-minded groups. This weekend WSI members will participate it in Bend it Like Booker, a 25 hour event organized by 34th District Democrats was inspired by Senator Booker’s 25-hour Senate filibuster. For more information see our events listing.
Our Issue Area Team Spotlight was on the Environment & Energy team. Karen Lezon discussed members’ concerns about public lands, resource issues, and energy intensive AI centers. The team has organized to reach out locally in three significant ways: 1. Community; 2. Legislation; 3. Education. They would love to have more people join their team so they can be more effective.
A couple meetings ago Laurie led an exercise to generate “be bold ideas.” We followed up by compiling the main ideas which fit into three main areas: 1. Build a sense of community; 2. Engage on issues with others; and 3. Take meaningful actions that have impact. We then divided into small neighborhood groups and talked about what specific actions that we will take. To see the list of Be Bold Ideas click here.
All in all, another great meeting with WSI! Join Us!

🏥 Healthcare Cuts Hurt Real People; Help WSI Tell That Story
Budget cuts to health care programs don’t just affect numbers on a page, they impact lives. We’re gathering local stories to understand how changes to programs like Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, the CDC, and NIH-funded medical research are affecting individuals, families, and communities.
Has your life, or the life of someone you care about, been impacted? Your story matters. By sharing your experience, you can help shine a light on the real-life consequences of these cuts and be part of a movement for change.
