It’s been a very busy month for the protest community in Seattle. Despite Donald Trump’s comments, No Kings protestors DO look “representative of America.” We are America! We had some great wins: one of the largest protest events in Seattle history (see below) and an off-year odd year election in which Democratic (and Democratic-Socialist) candidates swept every race, and increased margins in nearly every county, even ones that Trump won handily just a year ago. How? Grass-roots organizing. Neighbors talking to neighbors. High turnout. People were fed up. Main issues: Affordability. The economy is floundering under DJT’s tariffs and policies. Also, the people of America are NOT onboard with masked ICE and National Guard Troops grabbing brown people off the streets and out of schools, churches, and Home Depot lots and whisking them away to detention centers regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.
And we had some bad losses: as I write this, 8 Senate Democrats, at the height of their political leverage (gained by the People above), capitulated! They voted to approve the Republican plan to re-open the government and got near-bupkis in return. Why wasn’t the story: 9 Republicans side with Democrats to re-open the government, while extending Healthcare subsidies and SNAP funding for a year?
Meanwhile Trump Halloween’ed with the Oligarchy class at Mar a Lago (ghouls & goblins, oh my?). And Air Traffic Controllers worked 10-hour days, and had to take 2nd jobs to get money for food and rent (7-11? McDonalds? When do you sleep?). Meanwhile, the House of Representatives enjoyed a 2-month fully paid vacation (How do you sleep?). And 16 million American children were condemned to empty fridges for November. And for spite, when courts ordered Trump to release SNAP payments, the Supreme Court rolled over again, and FDA threatened any states that funded their SNAP programs pending re-imbursement. I guess they all want to see the pictures of kids with swollen bellies that are coming. In America! In 2025!
And… and… and. It can all seem overwhelming, particularly in isolation. Join others. Do what you can! All of this is my opinion only, today. Email me at vrt.terry63@gmail.com to make a comment, or engage.

A whopping 85,000+ Seattleites braved the threatened rain to contribute to the largest national protest demonstration in US history– over 7 million strong! Even our weather blessed the event by delaying the deluge until the march had concluded.
…7th Congressional District Representative Pramila Jayapal concluded the speeches by reminding us of Ben Franklin’s admonition that we have “a republic, if you can keep it”. She assured the crowd: “We are powerful. We are growing. We are the people who can save our democracy.”

The advisory from the national chapter at Indivisible.org is “make Alliances”. And we are taking that to heart. Every organization in this Movement seems to have a different “take” on what they want to do to grow and meet our shared goals of mobilizing 3.5% of our residents to the streets “consistently and persistently” to push back. This diversity is our strength.
Some of VRT’s closest ties are to DEFUND Musk and the DM Women’s Group. They are out there, producing more than a dozen events every week. See their upcoming calendar here. They have successfully pivoted from TESLA to Immigration, Women’s Rights, Science, and Healthcare (very similar to our own WSI Issue Teams. “No Kings 2” rally & march

No Kings 2 ENERGY!
Metro Seattle turned out to the tune of 70-90,000 protestors at the Seattle Center and to march to the Pike Place Market. Thanks to our friends at Seattle Indivisible for producing the Event. Thanks to our own Jasper for editing this snapshot.

More than 1,500 people showed up at this West Seatle version of the nationwide NO KINGS 2 Rally. Beginning in the Alsaska Junction and spreading north and south, it was a great event. This piece edited by Dina highlights many of the signs and people seen.

A Handmaid’s Tale, presented by the Women’s Group of DEFUND Musk
This Handmaids Tale - themed Rally was produced by our good friends at Defund Musk Women’s Group. Hundreds attended at University Village. This video by Jasper captures the essence of the rally.
Forty Handmaids marched silently through Seattle’s Pike Place Market, and then formed a procession to the amphitheater at Waterfront Park to hear the speakers’ dire warnings and call to action. Video by Terry

What Inspires Us

As the media production team for West Seattle Indivisible, we use all available media tools to inspire, educate, and move people to Take Action.

To mobilize 7% of the population of Seattle to the streets using Non Violent Protest (NVP) to push back on the policies of the current administration.
Research shows that just 3.5% of the population consistently, persistently, and publicly protesting in the streets is enough to topple dictatorships. As “the upper Lefthand corner of the U.S,” we can do better.

By creating and growing a diverse team of media-oriented citizens, we make short videos to distribute across all web and social media channels to reach our Target Audiences.
First Phase: To motivate our like-minded passive allies to become active allies and join this movement in the living rooms of their friends and neighbors and in the streets.
Second Phase: To educate those more neutral about the implications of the current policies and the affect these policies are already having on their lives.
Third Phase: To reach out to the passive allies of MAGA who feel betrayed by his rabid pursuit of the destruction of the economy regardless of who it hurts and how badly.
To do this all with Joy, Humor, and Goodwill, we need to make allies among groups across the region and the country.
This coordinated effort will prevail!
What Keeps Us Going
The Video Response Team (VRT) has been filming events, rallies, and marches with a mission to Protect our Democracy and push back on the Trump changes since mid-February.
We have interviewed dozens of people affected by this dismantling of institutions. They are intelligent, informed, and thoughtful as they tell us their stories about what is going on in our country and how it affects them. Many of them are as compassionate and eloquent as Robert. Well, they are just like you!
This is what Democracy looks like!

“A Rally for Women’s Rights”
This Handmaids Tale - themed Rally was produced by our good friends at Defund Musk Women’s Group. Hundreds attended at University Village.
Keynote speaker at the event was Seattle City Council’s Alexis Mercedes Rinck. We split her speech into these 4 amazing (and short) chapters. “West Seattle Grand Parade”
If you ever thought that this political movement is far left or extreme, take a look at us marching among the drum corps, marching bands, politicians, and yes, even the “Pooper Scooper” troopers. Talk about being '“mainstream”.
Honestly, this was the first time “marching” on California Ave that we were outnumbered by folks who didn’t come to be with us. And, people on the sidelines were happy to see that we exist and were very supportive of this movement.
One parade watcher, led the crowd in a chant of “Vote! Vote! Vote!” We took up his chant on repeating intervals for the remainder of the march.

Have you heard about Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”? Well, now it is the law of the land. The whole Trump policy agenda. You will see lots of untruths about it from the White House as Trump campaigns to “sell it” to the American people. We are not persuaded. Hear what your neighbors think.?

June 14: NO KINGS march/rally
70,000 people from the area showed up at this event held in Cal Anderson Park. WSI was a major co-sponsor. After an hour of speeches by many affected by the cuts and destruction, we marched to the Seattle Center. There were ZERO incidents reported. Peaceful, non-violent protest against the Trump administration. Here are two videos:
Over the past few months, we’ve asked the question “What gives you Hope?” We are both moved and inspired.
West Seattle Indivisible took the bus to Cal Anderson Park, were inspired from the Podium, and marched to the Seattle Center.
April 5: Hands Off!
Rally at Seattle Center
20,000 strong, saying “Hands Off” This was an epic event, and the citizens of Seattle and surrounding communities sounded off.
Thousands of patriots in Seattle joined millions of patriots in every one of our United States to demand the Trump/Musk administration get its Hands Off! our freedom, education, health, veterans' benefits, science, parks and everything else that makes America great!
West Seattle Indivisible’s own poet Jeanne Moore was there and presented her rally poem written for the event, “Hand’s Off.”
